CMJ 2011 kicks off tomorrow and one show you ought to consider is the New Zealand showcase. Read on for more details!
I am very excited to check out CMJ for the first time. There is a seriously insane amount of cool things going on. One of the many things I'm looking forward to is the New Zealand showcase on the first day of the festival. As you can see in the poster above, it takes place at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street in Manhattan) beginning at 6:00. It's free with an RSVP to the email listed in the bottom right corner.
As you can also see, there are seven different acts performing. I dig this lineup. Each performer is very strong, and taken together, the show offers a pretty eclectic mix of sounds and styles - ranging from disco to shoegaze, 90s indie to whimsical pop, and more. Here's a little sampling of each act. It should be awesome.
-Princess Chelsea: "The Cigarette Duet," from her album Lil' Golden Book.
-Andrew Keoghan: "Carnival Lights," from his album Arctic Tales Divide.
-Pikachunes: "Nervous," from his album Pikachunes.
-The Golden Awesome: "Highlife," from their forthcoming album Autumn.
-Popstrangers: "What Else Could They Do?" from their forthcoming album.
-Street Chant: "Stoned Again," from their album Means.
-Cairo Knife Fight: "The Origin of Slaves," from their EP Cairo Knife Fight II.
I hope you'll consider going to the show and be sure to check back for interviews with each artist and reviews of the night! Happy CMJ, everyone!
