Grasping at Straws Record Release Party

Grasping At Straws

Grasping at Straws, local Milwaukee “folk-grass” players, release their first offering on Saturday September 27th at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn at 1001 E Locust St. The party for the self titled release will also include Caley Conway and the Lucy Cukes, Pay the Devil and Chicago’s Renegade Lightning Rebellion. The eclectic mix of great music is not to be missed! Show starts at 9pm and is $5 at the door. The CD will be offered at the special price of $5!

Digging Out

You may have noticed that the Those Who Dig crew has slowed down lately. What’s the deal with that? Life. Specifically, weddings and houses. More specifically, two weddings and two houses all within a few months. Also, if any of you have spent a summer in Milwaukee, especially after a winter like the one we just had, you know one tends to spend as much time outdoors as possible this time of the year. We assure you, we’re still incredibly interested and engaged in the music and arts scene, both locally and around the world. In fact, we have some pretty cool things to announce.

She Keeps Bees & Shilpa Ray

She Keeps Bees

On September 16th, She Keeps Bees released their new album, Eight Houses. On this particular date, their tour put them at Club Garibaldi in Milwaukee, WI. The band is focusing on rallying support in the States. As Larrabee put it, “We realized we’d played Norway like five times but never played Denver.” Touring the United States means a lot of long drives but it certainly didn’t show in their inspiring live performance.

The Muse – The Grasping at Straws

The Grasping at Straws

The Grasping at Straws is a folk, alt-country, bluegrass group from Milwaukee Wisconsin. The group consists of Josh Backes on guitar and vocals, Maggie Iken on bass and vocals, Palmer Shah on banjo and vocals, Katie Salscheider’s vocals, and Ernest Brusubardis on the fiddle. The musicianship is their in spades, but in my opinion the strongest part of the Straws is their energetic live show.

Sofar Sounds Comes to Milwaukee

Sofar Milwaukee

Have you ever heard of Sofar Sounds? I hadn’t until I was contacted to help produce a series of music videos from the inaugural Milwaukee installment. I can’t summarize it any better than they do, so here you go. Sofar Sounds curates secret, intimate gigs in living rooms around the world. We spotlight amazing emerging artists, introducing them to new and passionate fans through a unique and magical concert experience. Sound cool? Yeah, we think so too.

Spirit Family Reunion – Climb Up The Corn

Spirit Family Reunion

I’ve been singing this song all weekend and figured it would be cruel to not share the love this Monday morning to help you shake the Monday blues. I have had the pleasure of seeing Spirit Family Reunion in concert once, and they did not disappoint. They were even so welcoming that washboard player Stephen Weinheimer dropped his instrument and sprinted to the back row to invite my fiancee and I into the inner seating area of the Peck Pavilion. Dig favorite Al Scorch opened the show creating one of the best lineups I’ve seen in quite some time. Spirit Family Reunion is blowing up, and you would have to be a fool to not understand why.
