Muse – The Grasping at Straws

The Grasping at Straws

The Grasping at Straws is a folk, alt-country, bluegrass group from Milwaukee Wisconsin. The group consists of Josh Backes on guitar and vocals, Maggie Iken on bass and vocals, Palmer Shah on banjo and vocals, Katie Salscheider’s vocals, and Ernest Brusubardis on the fiddle. The musicianship is their in spades, but in my opinion the strongest part of the Straws is their energetic live show. Speaking of their live show they are releasing their first album this coming Saturday (9/27/2014) at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn in Milwaukee. Here is the official event page, GRASPING AT STRAWS RELEASE A CD! The party is going to kick off at 9pm and will feature the musical talents of Caley Conway and the Lucy Cukes, Pay The Devil, and Renegade Lightning Rebellion, as well as The Grasping at Straws of course. Look for big things out of The Grasping at Straws in the near future. Make sure to head on over to the Grasping at Straws Facebook page to show your support and stay up to date with their assorted goings-ons.

Spirit Family Reunion – Climb Up The Corn

Spirit Family Reunion

I’ve been singing this song all weekend and figured it would be cruel to not share the love this Monday morning to help you shake the Monday blues. I have had the pleasure of seeing Spirit Family Reunion in concert once, and they did not disappoint. They were even so welcoming that washboard player Stephen Weinheimer dropped his instrument and sprinted to the back row to invite my fiancee and I into the inner seating area of the Peck Pavilion. Dig favorite Al Scorch opened the show creating one of the best lineups I’ve seen in quite some time. Spirit Family Reunion is blowing up, and you would have to be a fool to not understand why.

The Fatty Acids – Worst Part

Fatty Acids - Bolero

I was lucky enough to wake up from my post Locust Street Beer Run induced coma in-time to catch the Milwaukee based scatter-pop outfit the Fatty Acids rock the Linneman’s Stage at Locust Street Fest. This type of music isn’t usually in my wheelhouse, but now having seen them three times in person I’m firmly onboard. These guys put on a great live show and I can’t wait until I see them again.
